Stories and Experiences from GLS Battersea 2014

‘Every year when I go to the GLS I find myself saying, “that was so helpful, inspiring, mind-stretching and practically relevant to my life.”‘ Sunil Raheja, All Souls, Langham Place. GLS 2014.

‘I very much enjoyed this event, the summit was well put together and the venue is fab! What I have taken from this is… that I need to take time to rest, and as such I will be taking my days off!’ Andrena Palmer, Youth Minister, Christ Church, Orpington. GLS 2014.

‘I found the event a chance to step away from the busyness of work, reflect and helped me to find solutions to some very current problems. It helped me to refocus, re energise and move forward after a very challenging time at work. It was helpful to see that all leaders do have challenging moments and is all part and parcel of leadership. It was great to spend quality time with the colleague I went with and to share problems/solutions/best practice. I enjoyed the worship and atmosphere of the event which was very energising in itself.’ Kate Lambert, Oasis Aquila Housing. GLS 2014.

‘I took along my leadership team to the GLS at Battersea and once again it stimulated us on so many levels.  What I really appreciated this year was the practical teaching – the skills that were taught:  ‘Move Ahead; Modify the Plan and Motivate the People’ as a way to handle leader’s meetings… ‘Stop:Start:Continue’ as a way to manage people… the skill of Mutual Purpose & Mutual Respect.  It’s these skills that make all the difference to applying the teaching.’  Steve Rouse, Balham Baptist Church. GLS 2014.

My biggest thrill was to bring 12 of our leadership team, all had a great time only one had been before. My vision was to bring them into an understanding of leadership within our church which only the GLS offers. The balance between Christian and secular speakers is first class.’. Andrew Robinson, Christ Church, Chislehurst. GLS 2014.

Ridiculously inspiring, challenging and instructional as ever. Plenty for our team to wrestle with.’ Laura Lock, Streatham Baptist Church. GLS 2014.

‘I found it both inspiring and thought provoking with a lot of resonance to both my work role as a Change Manager and role within the church family.’ Caroline Knox, St Thomas with St Stephen’s Church. GLS 2014.

‘This event definitely exceeded my expectations. I particularly liked the fact that there was a mixture of business and church leaders and that we were given time to write down the key message we received from each talk immediately after the talk and then to discuss this in our groups.’ Robert Lake, St Mark’s Church, Battersea Rise. GLS 2014.

‘The quality of the speakers was excellent.  I very much enjoy hearing speakers from around the world. Having said that the great value also of GLS is the additional experience of the setting where we go to see it.  This time I had the opportunity and need for prayer and I found the prayer team at St Marks was extraordinary.  It felt as if the summit was being held up by those faithfully praying.’ Caroline Bryant, St Thomas with St Stephen’s Church. GLS 2014.

I found the summit most insightful, inspiring and spoke into my current circumstances.  I felt enriched and motivated after.’ Silvia Evans. GLS 2014.
